THE WRONG IDEOLOGY THAT SHAPED ME AND HOW I OVERCAME IT.

There is a particular ideology I was made to believe was generally acceptable and preferred as a child growing up; I was meant to believe that going for a bigger, better and more appealing item(s) from a pack of items had a greedy connotation attached to it; in other words, go for the small and less appealing item to portray a humble and modest demeanour. You do not want to feel guilty and also be considered a greedy person, so you might as well pretend to be okay with the less appealing and inconspicuous item.

Naturally, you become accustomed to the ‘norm’ which reflected in your choices at birthday parties, school games, friends, relationships etc. There is actually nothing wrong with choosing a smaller or less appealing/quality item, especially if it is something you genuinely like, the problem there is the wrong message or lesson which is being impacted as the reason to always go for less; but then again to my surprise, another child within the same sphere, ends up going for the bigger, better and more appealing item, only to be embraced afterwards with delightful remarks of approval! Talk of double standards right?

This mindset is a stronghold as well as one of the reasons people end up with poor choices in all aspects of life; including yours truly. The inclination to gravitate towards these choices  has become  a second nature as a result of a wrong ideology that was impacted at such an early age.

But here is the good news! GOD has made provision for us by HIS Graces to embrace a transformed mindset through HIS WORD. GOD sent his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ to die for people HE made in HIS IMAGE, you and I, which reflects the value HE places on us; and If GOD can give such a priceless gift to us, we must follow in the footsteps of our Father to always go for the best in everything.

This is my new ideology and I am so glad my children are getting it right on time. You too can embrace this better and higher mindset ‘cause indeed “as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (proverbs 23:7).
