LIKE STARS ON EARTH

Has anyone seen this movie, "Like Stars on Earth? It is a must watch, most especially if you are a parent or you hope to be one in the future. The movie is about a young lad of 9years old, who had difficulties with recognising letters and spellings. In his words, he said "the letters are dancing", and truly, the letters were dancing in his head. He struggled with this for a long time and expressed his inabilities by being very stubborn and unattentive. His parents, especially the father could not understand him. They called him different names like stubborn, empty head and all sorts of heart hurting and discouraging words. But what they refused to recognise about their son was that he was very good with arts. He could draw very well. He was exceptionally gifted with arts.

It took a teacher who payed close attention to details to understand the need of the child because he could resonate with the little boys challenge given that he had similar issues while growing up. As much as he identified the issues, his willingness to help the boy became a driving force to the re-invention of a life filled with skills and talent...a new Ishan emerged. All that the little boy needed was for someone to give him a listening ear, to understand him, to see right through him, to let him in and to discover him, instead of being mocked by everyone around him.

This young boy whom people including his parents thought would never amount to anything became a super star! It takes love, care, paying attention to your children's' needs and above all prayers to bring out the best in children even the very best ones.

Parents need not to compare their children with other children. They should take time to discover their childrens' strengths and help them develop their talents. Children are very sensitive and issues like this, if not handled very carefully could destroy their self esteem.

This movie is a must watch..

Absolutely true! This is very practical and relatable. Every child's self esteem is important. Tampering with it is the same as adversely affecting the child"s destiny!Thank you dear Neme for this great enlightenment. Really powerful! X

The instruction to train up a child the way he should go is often times understood to connote consistent exasperation of the child and ofcourse not sparing the rod kind of training...but then there is a lot more that you can give to a child. It however becomes our responsibility to provide an enabling environment that encapsulates spiritual, material, and emotional wellness of a child. These components are fundamental to the formation of confidence and healthy self esteem which is key to development. Remember, whatever you teach a child, expect him to replicate in a thousand fold.
Thank you so much Laura and Spencer. Your comments are exceptionally brilliant. GOD bless you.
