WHY YOUR BODY LANGUAGE PLAYS "THE BIG ROLE"

Getting Started;

We all know that real communication is not just a matter of uttering words. Did you realize just how little impact what we actually say has on people we are speaking to? In a face-to face situation, like a presentation, between 55 and 65 percent of your meaning is communicated by your body language- your posture, movements, gesticulation, and facial expressions-and 38 percent comes from your tone of voice which could either communicate confidence or fear or pride. That leaves just seven percent to be conveyed by the words you use.

In addition, researchers also agree that the verbal part of the communication is used to convey information, while the non-verbal part is used to convey values, feelings, and attitudes...the things that build rapport.

It's obvious then, that if you can learn to understand and control body language in a conscious way, you can make an enormous difference to the impact you have on your audience or  the person you are communicating to. This action list will help you to use the different forms of non-verbal communication to help get your message across effectively and to build firm rapport with your listeners.

1. Keep Up Eye Contact

2. Watch your Timing

3. Think about your tone and mannerism

4. Remember your facial expression

5. Match your clothes to the occasion.

Because body language is something that occurs naturally, whether or not we are conscious of it and it is possible to control every last aspect of it. This means that if you are talking about something that you don't really believe in or you are not entirely comfortable with, your body language will subtly "leak" this somewhere along the line. The only answer is to be authentic in what you are saying and your body language will reinforce that message naturally.

Consequently, there is always the tendency that it could suddenly become terribly easy to overdo them, when you become conscious of all the ways in which you communicate. Do not let your posture depict pride or over confidence, especially at an interview. Be natural, active, free, and composed at the same time. Eventually, if you practice enough, controlling your body language will become second nature to you.

Keep shining.
